In June GWIS Iowa City members Rachel Cole and Katrina Okerstrom-Jezewski presented their research at the GWIS National Conference in Rapid City, South Dakota.
The conference was a great opportunity to meet other women in science and had great speakers. It was hosted at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, which provided a great opportunity to learn about Rapid City and South Dakota!
There were tours of the Stanford Underground Research Facility and the Museum of Geology. With the theme Communicating Science, the conference offered a science communication workshop. Panels topics included "Communicating for Success" and Grad School 101.
Speakers ranged from molecular biology to physics to urban development. Rachel won second place for her poster presentation.
