"I love that GWIS is an organization that brings women together from different departments and allows us to creatively spread science to the community. Through outreach and professional development events hosted by our local chapter we are able to target a wide variety of audiences in attempt to increase scientific literacy in the local Iowa City population. GWIS allows us as women, an underrepresented population in the sciences, to educate other underrepresented populations, which is a wonderful opportunity."

"I've enjoyed being a member of GWIS in our Iowa City chapter particularly for the camaraderie fostered between women from various scientific disciplines. Our social events draw graduate students from a wide range of departments and it is always so interesting to hear about the great work women are doing all over campus. I enjoy being a member of GWIS because I know my membership dues help make these social events something graduate women look forward to attending!"

"GWIS Iowa City provides a network of great local scientists. I first joined GWIS because of my interest in outreach events but learned the importance of the professional development resources that GWIS provides as well that you don't get elsewhere. Events hosted by GWIS Iowa City have been helpful to all stages of my graduate career. I have also made friends with other scientists outside my discipline that I would never have met otherwise."
